Game-based learning is here to stay is a post from: Netdreamer publications

]]>
Switch that radio off while you are studying!
No TV until you finish your homework!

Remember those?
Well my kid is not even slightly interested in radio or TV, during homework or as a reward for after.
Computers, and the internet, have her attention.

I recently came across a very interesting article by Justin Boyle, who a tutor, editor and designer, who works in media production for an ecology non-profit.
He claims that game-based learning may not be a quick fix for schools looking to pump up student performance, but some things just don’t have quick fixes.
Game-enhanced coursework has been shown to have effects both grand and subtle on the attitudes and outcomes of learning, in online colleges as well as traditional classroom environments that teachers could do well to further explore.

Game based learning is worth looking into, it is not even that new; studies are being carried out and published about advantages/disadvantages of using games to help students learn better.
Recent research shows that video games, once considered public school enemy number one, might just be one of our greatest assets in delivering an effective education.

Before you go on to read the full article, I have to tell you this is not new, as Netdreamer Publications has been using footage shot in real time (games and virtual platforms) for their innovative educational e-Books for children.
Developments like that will bring the level and effectiveness of children’s e-Books more up to date, it is time we left ‘old school’ animations behind and show kids the animations of today. An example of the first 4 pages of our e-Book, ‘Medieval farm’, is shown HERE.

Target Market is a post from: Netdreamer publications

]]>

Our target market for the BobbekinWorld e-Books is teachers, parents and grandparents. Ultimately, the child, of course.

We believe that the children growing up nowadays will enjoy in-depth animation in e-Books.

So far, most animated e-Books for children show wriggling hippo’s and ducks that swim around a boat, we believe that Real Time Animation is the next step.

When a parent becomes involved in good animation, their enthusiasm will add to the fun and learning-experience of the child. The more the enjoyment and involvement of the parent while reading a story, the deeper the experience of the child.

It is a matter of raising the bar high, with full animation, which the teacher and parent will enjoy and then transfer to the child.

Think of movies like Shrek and Ice Age, the fact that parents enjoy it so much is one of the (many) success factors of these films.

Our Bobbekin characters are fun, and they represent only one of 3 worlds we are working on, the others being Fairyworld and RobotWorld.

About Crowdfunding is a post from: Netdreamer publications

]]>

Whether you are completely new to crowdfunding or familiar with it since its start back in 2009; stories of crowdfunding successes and failures will become more and more common. There is a lot going on when it comes to crowdfunding, and it is certainly worthwhile catching your attention.

Come take a look and see what all the fuss is about!

We decided to start Indiegogo crowdfunding when we were discussing marketing our e-Books, as it one step beyond the usual social media channels.

Over the last 2 years, we have invested a considerable amount of money and time in developing our multimedia e-Books. It has been very difficult to stay independent. We know that if we sell to the large publishers too early, we will most definitely lose control over matters we find very important and are close to our heart.

At Indiegogo we have the perfect opportunity not only to pre-sell our publications, but to also offer exciting bonuses to families and teachers who share and appreciate our concept. It is a huge learning curve for our company and team, and we are grateful for the contributions to BobbekinWorld.

If you like our book, make sure you get it for 10 dollars at Indiegogo before the project ends, as we are not just offering it at a discount but also giving away lots of goodies too!

The evaluation of e-Books for children is a post from: Netdreamer publications

]]>

E-books are commonplace these days.

First generation readers offered a basic digital version of a printed book. The experience was similar to reading a traditional paper book, with the major difference the scrolling through pages instead of turning them over.

Today’s devices offer more possibilities.

These “enhanced” e-Books offer a completely new and different reading experience. Often bought as apps, these e-Books provide lots of choice. For example; a user can choose to have the whole book read to them, or can choose to read the book themselves. E-Book enhancements consist of a range of things, but often include listening to music that complements the story, playing story-related games, completing coloring pages, and contain video and animations.

Children find e-Books fun and engaging, and very slowly the market is growing up and providing the advanced animations that the kids are used to in this visual environment they grow up in.

The on-going discussion of electronic versus paper books for education is not relevant, when it comes to animation. Paper books cannot include video. The generation that we are raising now, has a shorter attention span and needs advanced media to keep them reading, to engage them and teach them what they need to learn.

Netdreamer Publications is coming out with a range of educational e-Books that include advanced animations, making it fun to learn. Our little characters, the Bobbekins, explore virtual planets and interact with a magical owl, guiding your child through many adventures.

Our first multimedia e-Book ‘The Medieval Farm’ is pre selling now for 10 dollars, at netdreamer.com. I suggest you have a look, and if you like what you see, take advantage of this limited, special offer.

  • We think you will enjoy our new BobbekinWorld multimedia book together with your child.  Sit down with your little one, and see if you can help your child find a balance between having fun with the images and animations, while enjoying and understanding the story. Watch the video’s, point out the words, and enjoy the storytelling by our magical owl, Janet Brightfeathers.
  • Stay present with your child and the book experience. It’s tempting to let the device do the work — read the story, play a game and interact with your child. But there’s no substitute for quality parent-child conversation. Keep talking, ask questions, explaining words and phrases, and sharing your love of literacy with your child.

Chantal Harvey – Netdreamer Publications 2013.

The BobbeKin World
In 2001 Marc Prensky published his influential article about the difference between Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants. Prensky’s paper divides our world into two ‘classes’, those, who grew up in the era of analogue technologies and those, who were growing up in a time, where the ICT revolution became partof a new and different reality.

Both these groups show a rather different behaviour.

Creating a project like the BobbeKins is clearly addressing the Digital Natives. These are multi-tasking,but have limited patience and concentration on the long-term. This also is much influence by overstimulation being permanently around us. Communication has shifted.

How often do siblings text each other from one room to the next instead of talking to each    other? The impact of multimedia is omnipresent. But one point has not changed, children’s fantasy, their love for the imaginative.

But there also is another societal discussion, violence. The ‘World of Warcraft[s]’ and comparable games start very early in childhood. One may see this as a destruction of the original imagination or a transfer of a child’s fantasy into one of killing and destroying.

The BobbeKin World is positively very different. It adopts multimedia, meets this way the modern ways and shifts from physical books to virtual multi-sensorial perceptions: The BobbeKins take advantage of addressing a variety of senses, which are at the core of multimedia.  It even presents a 3-D world, but one which can be favourably used on common household devices.

This way the project that Professor Tony Dyson and Chantal Harvey have created is a forward leading way of catching modern children by fascination. There is a wonderful story, there are magic colours and environments stimulating a child’s fantasy and there are lovely characters. None of these are simplistic, as e.g. the Japanese Manga, being a doubtful minimisation of characteristics. There is a storytelling of positive developments, which the present society
needs so much.

But one element is totally missing, violence.

This unique combination of positive core elements presented with moral and narrated in a form attracting children’s fascination makes the BobbeKin World so valuable. It is the combination of many traditional values into our modern world of technologisation, which makes the BobbeKin World the much-needed next step, which is more than the technologisation of the traditional children’s books. It is a futureoriented progress for the world of fantasy of our digital native children.

Hopefully there will be more to come.

Prof Dr Klaus Oestreicher

These e-Books combine video, music and still images of cute little characters called Bobbekins, more interactive than ever before, taking full advantage of new media to create some engaging stories that children really love.

With going to Indiegogo, we are actually pre-selling our e-Books and Books. But more than that: it enables us to stay independent. Publishing houses are already showing interest. We really want to stay independent, untill we can establish ourselves.

About Netdreamer Publications is a post from: Netdreamer publications

    ]]>

We are a virtual publishing company, specialising in children’s books for educational and life experience.

We have been working with real time animation since 2011 and believe it has a great potential as a teaching tool.
We are convinced that the published material available today for tablets and e-readers falls very short to its full potential.

We believe that the sophisticated child, born and living in this digital day and age, will enjoy in-depth animation in eBooks and on handhelds.

So far, animated e-Books for children show wriggling hippo’s and ducks that swim around a boat, and we think that Real Time Animation is the next step.

We should always be striving to capture the child’s imagination and trigger that inner magic and wonder that can be experienced by the inquiring mind.

Also when a parent becomes involved in advanced animation, their enthusiasm will add to the fun and learning-experience of the child.

The more the enjoyment and involvement of the parent while reading a story, the deeper the experience of the child. It is a matter of raising the bar high, with full animation, which the teacher and parent will also enjoy and then transfer it to the child.

Think of movies like Shrek and Ice Age, the fact that parents enjoy it so much is one of the (many) success factors of these films.

This is truly a brave new world for a publisher and author. Netdreamer Publications has taken the next step and is pre-selling right now!
